St. Thomas Aquinas finishes No. 1 in Massey Ratings

St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) started the season No. 19 in the Massey Ratings, a computerized look at the nation’s top prep football teams.
The Raiders were as low as No. 20 and as high as No. 1 during the season, and for the last 12 weeks of the season, they were never lower than fifth. They entered the final week of the season No. 4.
After beating Lakeland (Fla.) in the 5A state championship game Friday, St. Thomas Aquinas finished the season No. 1 in the Massey Ratings.
The Raiders also finished No. 1 in USA TODAY’s Super 25.
South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.) is No. 2, Wayzata (Plymouth, Minn.) No. 3, St. Ignatius (Cleveland) No. 4 and Allen (Texas) No. 5. All are state champions. No. 24 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) is the only new team in the this week’s top 25.
Seventeen of the top 25 teams in the Massey Ratings are state champions, including eight of the top 10.
Texas (seven), Ohio (four), South Carolina (two) and Michigan (two) were states with multiple teams in the top 25. Of the teams in the Massy Ratings preseason top 25, three were in the season-ending ratings.
